More positive reviews ...
this time from the industry itself!!
'Higher Ground', the first
of PJ's songs written and recorded with Greenhaus
for their up and coming 3rd album, has been
chosen as today's Record of The Day, a music
industry daily newsletter sent out to A&Rs
and medias, featuring "best new music"
and tipping them to be "future smashes".
"At first we thought Chris
Morris had hijacked BBC London News but it turned
out this had started playing through our computer
speakers while the TV was on. So we turned the
TV off, listened, and heard not just an ethereal
soundscape but an enchanting melody as well.
London five piece Greenhaus were known as a
techno outfit following their formation in 1999
but have since diversified massively to make
the kind of music not heard since the Cocteau
Twins. And listening to Higher Ground, we're
very glad of that." Record of
The Day

'Higher
Ground' Reviewed - 9.3/10!
Having recently received
rave response to her gigs with Greenhaus, PJ's
recording collaboration with them has now borne
even more fruits!!
"I just finished listening
to this song for the 5th time and this review
is of a 'On the fly' kind. What can you say
about this band that hasn't already been said
by reviewers from here and other sites already..
The sound that they produce
is like listening to the blood flowing through
your veins.. You know it's flowing but it does
it with silent serenity... The sound you hear
issuing forth from your chosen method of listening
just covers you like a warm blanket.
The song really builds wonderfully
and to add to the listening pleasure they have
a superb guest vocalist in the form of one Phoenix
J... Her voice just permeats and intertwines
through the song lifting it to superb level.
Yea I'm going off the deep
end with this one but it is absolutely superb.
I hope at some point when they return from Europe
to be able to catch this act in London. Recommend
it? Massively!" Review by SlippyT -

As with the recent
shows in the continent, the UK gigs on 9 &
10 Oct. supporting MESH also went down a storm!
Here's what a long time "fan" of the
band says:
"I have had the misfortune
to see Greenhaus around 8 times supporting Mesh
and John Foxx, but what I saw on Saturday was
unbelievable.
Out of the ashes of a rambling
synth band, a Phoenix arose (pun intended).
The added pleasure of great music, and Susana
on keyboards, made the evening a total, but
pleasant shock.
Greenhaus are now a real band
who I will look forward to seeing again. Whoever
had the idea to change deserves real praise.
Success awaits." Samvox

Gig Review
A perfect symbiosis
of Massive Attack, The Cure and VNV Nation,
GREENHAUS impressed song after song . . .
"East Westfalian Germans
are notorious for their stubbornness and reservedness,
a reputation that may stem from the fact that
they don’t eat stuff they don’t
know.
Right from the start of the
concert, I was very impressed with the stage
presence of lady singer PJ, only 160 cm tall.
GREENHAUS, founded as a techno/instrumental
project in 1998, had been joined by this petite,
charismatic singer of Asian origin about 8 months
ago. She assured me that she has never had any
classical vocal training, but I didn’t
believe it – or I didn’t want to
believe it...Susanna, the lady on keyboards,
was a new band member. It was obvious that she
knows her classical piano.

A perfect symbiosis of Massive
Attack, The Cure and VNV Nation, GREENHAUS impressed
song after song. Not only could one tell that
they were having a great time playing their
music, but also that they knew exactly what
they were doing. After some initial scepticism
amongst the 300 audience members, the ice was
quickly broken, and PJ, Susanna and their band
mates clearly enjoyed the lively atmosphere.
Their very trancey waves of
sound in conjunction with PJ’s powerful
and clear voice took the listener on a voyage
on an ocean of melodies. It was almost therapeutic,
making one forget the day’s stress in
view of the highly competent performances on
vocals, guitars, bass, synths and e-drums."

weekend was no exception.

And despite being a very dark
electronica festival, the set by chillout-progressive
band Greenhaus
proved a highlight of the evening. With their
uplifting beats and haunting guitars, they provided
a welcome alternative sound that was much appreciated
by the largely goth crowd. Complemented by the
appearance of various guest vocalists with their
individual styles, it added up to a highly eclectic
mix for the very thematic and at times epic
movie-esque soundscores typical of the current
Greenhaus signature sound.
One of these was Phoenix J.
Singing in her soulful soprano range, she at
times broke into a choreography of unique dance
moves that wowed the audience and led to a frenzy
of photographers snapping shots at the front
of stage. She performed some of the band's existing
repertoire, and then moved their fans further
by introducing 3 new songs that she had co-penned
with them, including Higher Ground, You're not
Alone and Particle Acceleration.
Just so you don't miss out,
make an effort to catch Phoenix J with Greenhaus
on the UK leg of their Spring tour supporting
the legendary Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk. For

GIG NEWS
Three more gig dates with dark
electronica Greenhaus have been confirmed. Phoenix
J will be touring with the band this Spring
in London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.
Please check diary page or the Greenhaus website
for details.
PJ has been writing and recording
with them as featured songwriter/vocalist for
their forthcoming Summer album.
About Greenhaus:
"Never an easy band to categorise, greenhaus
currently straddle the dark musical wasteland
between the likes of Mogwai to New Order , one
minute all dark psychedelic space rock, next
all bouncing electronic groove. With the recent
addition of guest vocalists the band have moved
towards a much more accessible sound whilst
still remaining splendidly isolated from the
mainstream. After 3 years, 2 albums and countless
UK and European live shows, greenhaus are maturing
into a force to be reckoned with...
Their original sound was
likened to Underworld and Orbital, but since
the addition of guitarist Jon Williams and songwriter,
Steve Bellamy, slowly coming out of his cocoon
adding vocals to some of the newer tracks, there
is a new depth to their sound, with rich musical
soundscapes and deep haunting anthem like textures
weaving in and out of their tracks."

Recording & Rehearsing
PJ recorded the first vocals of 'Higher Ground'
at Greenhaus London studio and rehearsed with
them the same evening for the first time.
Writing and Recording
In Nov, PJ responded to a findit ad placed by
greenhaus seeking singer/songwriter collaborators...
she received in the post the first CD of 10
backing tracks.
PJ proceeded to write her first Greenhaus
song 'Higher Ground' and recorded a demo version
at Kyrle House Studios. Whilst at MIDEM in January,
she received the good news that they liked her
song and would like her to write on another
track, in addition to performing live with them
for two London upcoming gigs.
