I cannot quite remember the story behind this… though the movie “The Postman” starring Kevin Costner may have some bearing in it. You try to help, you do your best, only to face a brick wall or speak to deaf ears, and worse still, down right hostility. I think most of us have been there. Let’s not waste our time and breath. Instead, let’s go where our efforts will be better appreciated.
DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER
Album: “A Fool’s Paradise” and “You’re Not Alone” by greenhaus
Listen on
Your name turned into mud
And they took your name in vain
That’s the nature of the beast
The nature of the beast
You were so near yet so far
They kept breathing down your neck
Put a bullet in your back
With a dagger to your heart
Don’t shoot the messenger
Don’t shoot the messenger
He’ll go away
Don’t shoot the messenger
Don’t shoot the messenger
He’ll go away
You tried and turn the page
Still they threw mud on your face
Put a nail in your coffin
Before you needed a coffin
And they’d give you the sack
Thought you’re dead up from the neck
But you showed them what it was in you
For all to see
Don’t shoot the messenger
Don’t shoot the messenger
He’ll go away
Don’t shoot the messenger
Don’t shoot the messenger
He’ll go away
Well it was good news to me
When you uttered “What the heck”
You were packing up your bag
And you were walking up the track
And you were never coming back
You were never coming back
Cos there’ll be someone else out there
Who would not shoot you down
Don’t shoot the messenger
Don’t shoot the messenger
He’s gone away
Don’t shoot the messenger
Don’t shoot the messenger
He’s gone away
